Most guides written for foreign visitors to Japan are either generic listicles recycled across a hundred sites, or hyper-local blogs that assume you already know how to read a train map or ask for directions. Wander Japan sits in between: practical enough to actually use on the ground, but written specifically for someone visiting from abroad for the first or second time.

Every city guide, itinerary, and recommendation on this site is built around one question — what would actually help someone standing at the airport, phone in hand, trying to figure out what to do next? That's why we cover things other guides skip: which IC card to get, which escalator side to stand on, how not to overpay for a JR Pass, which souvenirs are worth the suitcase space.
